THE ART OF THE NATIVITY SCENE AND SHEPHERDS
In the ancient road layout of the Greek era, made up of vertical and horizontal axes of the historic center of Naples, declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1995, there is a small street that has become famous throughout the world for its artisan tradition: via San Gregorio Armeno. Rising near the ancient Greek agora, here they manufactured votive statues for the goddess Ceres, whose tradition has been handed down over the centuries through paganism and reaching the Bourbon era, when the "fashion" of the Nativity spread with King Charles, a typical representation of the Nativity of Jesus, through the production of figurines and cork and papier-mache scenes that reproduced the Naples of those years.
The story of a fascinating art that is handed down from generation to generation in a historic local company, where the Masters will show you how shepherds and shepherds take shape from their hands, terracotta, wood, and the renowned silks cribs.
Together with a visit to the spectacular Cathedral dedicated to San Gennaro, the church of San Gregorio Armeno, and a tasting of typical products, this tour becomes an opportunity to get to know some of the most typical expressions of this city.
